Why do you believe what you believe? Why are you a Christian? Why are you a follower of Jesus Christ? Are you able to answer those questions and others like it to someone who asks or challenges it? How about your kids or grandkids? Our youth today are being bombarded with a potpourri of worldviews and exposed to a hostile secular culture that is apathetic, ignorant, or even antagonistic to Christianity.
"But in your hearts reverence Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence;"
St. Peter wrote to set apart Christ as the Lord, which includes always being ready to tell others the reason (the WHY) of your hope. Apologetics is a field that handles the difficult questions people have regarding belief in God. Followers of Jesus Christ are told in Scripture to always be ready to give a reason as to WHY they believe WHAT they believe with gentleness and respect. This has never been more needed than today, not only for us as Christians, but for those around us that we encounter daily outside AND inside the church.
The Defenders class will unpack the claims of the Church and show that Christianity is logically, historically, and scripturally true, and Catholicism is the FULLNESS of that truth. We will start from the basics of what is 'truth,' to God's existence, the reliability of Scripture, the bodily Resurrection of Jesus, other worldviews, Q&A classes, and end on the unique (and true) beliefs of the Catholic Church. All adults are welcome. Please e-mail, call, or text for dates, times, or any other comments or questions.
